With more one-way links going to your website from other websites, it will improve your page ranking. So, here are some guides on how to improve your linking strategies, so as to increase your page ranking, and thus promote more traffic to your site:
(a) Submit your site to directories. Directories are different from search engines in that directories list only selected sites. A link from each directory like the free Open Directory Project (www.dmoz.com) will of course get you traffic and help increasing your ranking. Yahoo! Directory is also available. BUT make sure that when submitting your site description to those directories, minimize them to not more than 255 characters. Select suitable directories to submit your site, for example; the directory may focus only on particular category like education or technology. Sometimes, you’ll have to pay for a link.
(b) Participate in a free traffic exchange program. It means you’re giving your link in exchange for another person’s link. There are some ways you can get links pointing to your site. One is reciprocal linking by sending e-mail to quality websites requesting a reciprocal link exchange. A triangular linking is that three sites creating a triangle type-linking scheme, which each site receives a one-way link.
(c) Write articles for others or publish your own free e-zine or newsletter. Write articles for others or publish your own free e-zine or newsletter with links to your site. By submitting articles to article directories, you will receive one-way links from the article directories and publishers can place your articles in their e-zines or websites, thus creating more one-way links to your site.
(d) Start your own blog. Begin your own business blog with links to your website, promoting your business, and thus will increase your page rank when visitors link to it.
(e) Add comments to other people’s blogs, in which you can link back to your site. Keep in mind that, this strategy won’t help in your search engines ranking.
(f) Participate in chats/forums/discussion boards/blogs/ related to the content of your website. There you can also include a link to your site (if the forum allows it).
